We decided to take the ferry to the Westman islands today, it is a 80 km drive to the ferry landing, and a 35 minute trip to the island. The last time we were there, 2 years ago, there was a gale force wind blowing and as we walked up the volcano, I was petrified that we would be blown into the sea. This time the weather was perfect, little wind, and even sunshine. We visited the newly opened museum that includes one of the houses recently excavated, 40 years after the volcano explosion of 1973 that buried 40 of the houses in ash. The museum was very interesting, and we watched a film about the explosion and the evacuation of the island.

When we returned home, we heard on the news that there was a lot of vog (volcanic fog) today in Reykjavik from the current Bárðarbunga explosion, which made breathing difficult and threw a hazy cloud over everything, so we were glad we spent the day far away.

This wall art was on a building next to the harbour.
