Referendum Day
After two years of campaigning, we reached referendum day. Should Scotland be an independent country? We voted, then took advantage of the schools being off by going for a couple of days of holiday.
This photo is not of my polling station. I didn't want to take pictures too close to an actual polling station, and that meant that at my polling station, all you could see was a rather ugly fence. Instead, this is a polling station in Dunblane; we stopped there when we picked up a couple of coffees for the journey at the next-door Marks & Spencer!
As for the referendum itself, everyone knows by now that Scotland voted by 55-45 to stay in the UK. Now we wait to see whether the politicians are able to bring forward the changes to our political system that they promised. If they succeed, they could re-invigorate political life in this United Kingdom. If they fail, I fear we could find ourselves going through this whole process again, sooner than we might expect.
