Lassitude

The grey pall of mist over Edinburgh this morning meant that the Saltires over Victoria Quay hung somewhat limp.

I was spending the day there as the car was in at a nearby garage ( I had no option as the MOT was due). It meant that the night time observations of the results had to be curtailed a bit after 2am as the first results were being analysed. But up again in time to hear the Glasgow vote and then the various speeches.

The mood in the office was subdued. Not because of voting patterns in the office but because many have lived with the preparations and developments and possible future options. And then suddenly it was over.

Hopes, expectations, disappointments, shared anxieties all mingled together. No sense of triumph or bitterness. Just a recognition that we move into a new phase.

It was a day for reflecting and taking time for one's own thoughts and absorbing the emerging news of the constitutional change about to spread over the UK. And all of that before this afternoon's events which mark yet another stage in Scotland's journey.

On top of it all the car failed its MOT. Just on a couple of minor technicalities which were remedied just in time - but at a cost. So lassitude seems to sum it all up.
