Follow the Heron
For today's challenge song, I went out first thing this morning to the River Carron, where there are herons.
It's a beautiful song, this, sung with the beautiful clear voice of Karine Polwart, and I was hoping the early morning air and the chance of some nice photos would clear my mind, but it's not really working.
Scotland had the chance to become independant yesterday. The chance to become a sovereign country and to elect the government hereafter that as a country, we want to elect; instead of ending up election after election with the one chosen by our English neighbours. The chance to build something better and fairer.
But a clear majority of Scottish voters bought the Westminster notion that we are somehow too small, too stupid, too insignificant to run our own affairs. And they voted no, proclaiming themselves incompetent to govern their own country and handing power firmly back to Westminster.
That, as one of my FB friends pointed out, is democracy; fear does have a tendency to win over hope.
I was expecting this. But I was also hoping, and now I'm devastated.
Even the photos aren't that good 'cause it was quite dark and I was using iso 6400! And, to cap it all, I backed into my brother's car on the way out of my driveway because I forgot the blasted thing was there and didn't look properly. Oh well.
