Elegant decay

In the heat of a September afternoon, during the driest September for over 50 years, I found the shrivelled leaves of a teasel, elegant curlicues showing that age has its own beauty.

A long day of fieldwork was followed by a delicious venison stew cooked by Alex and Ben, and then a trip to our local for the pub quiz. We weren't quite the worst, but our knowledge of sports,films and South American cities rather let us down. Ready for bed now - so tired!
