92% turn out in our table

The most amazing day I have done the elections for. This is what democracy should be about. In total we dealt with 606 electors, with 10 waiting in our queue before we even opened for business.

I could go into great detail about what this means to the country, the debate that has gone on on the radio, the television, amongst politicians, families and friends, but the superlatives are being dosed out on the BBC at the moment. This is the sixth election I believe I have done now and I have never seen such a high turnout, such enthusiasm and excitement amongst the electors. The European elections and their unsurprising majority abstention seem a distant memory.

A couple of years ago I was pretty damn fed up listening to politicians moaning about various issues. But recently, I think when the nation actually started asking questions of who we are, where our nation is going it actually became a very positive conversation.

Friends all over the world have been axing about it, probably recognising the importance of the election. No matter the result, things will never be the same. Our country is going to be better and not only that, the disenfranchised across the UK and why not in other countries across the world will find their vote and their desire for change.

Having lived in a city for a year where 40% voted extreme right wing, this love for the nation has nothing to do with brigades of people wandering round looking to send people home, because this is their home.

A wonderful day for our nation, if a tad surreal. Very proud to be Scottish.
