Derelict Thursday: Factory ceased in 2011
Nice day in Helsinki is over and I had time to make a small ride by bike in the middle of warm evening +16c... Lovely sun shine and warm weather - but in the forecast they predicted that we can have a dramatic change here - and maybe even have some snow in next week!
Even if this is so colourful, sunset colours help alot:), this is my trial of artistic vision of the 2011 abandoned factory which will be torn down soon; these are the buildings and the grounds of the former Abloy - factory in Tampere. Now the old industrial site polluted soil is being cleaned for residential use. Some kind of vacuuming going on indoors, if I have understood right...
The largest concentrations found in the site were the heavy metals copper, lead and zinc about two meters in depth and about 8000 m2 total area of about 10 000 m3.
At the same place before Abloy there was Excelsior metal factory, which began operations in 1917. Before that there was a potato processing plant.
The traditional industrial area is planned as residential area after cleaning the soil. There will be build a three-acre lakeside plot of ten to twenty residential houses. If the soil decontamination and site planning is going on as the building company wishes, the first houses are ready already in the fall of 2015.
