Journey forward

Kruger National Park #5

We were parked on the road across the wall of the Nsemani Dam near Satara Camp, when ahead and to our left we observed a huge dust cloud. Within minutes, a herd of Buffalo (Synecerus caffer), surged across the road and headed straight to the water. The 'stampede' continued for well over 15 minutes, as they all made their along the bank to find a gap to get to the water. There were at least 500 head, although I am sure it was closer to 700/800.

The picture shows only a small section of the entire herd spread out along the edge of the dam.

Thirst sated, and having cooled off, they started back into the bush.

An hour of pure pleasure to sit and observe.
