Beachy Head.

Beachy Head towers above Eastbourne being the highest chalk sea cliff in the uk ,but sadly is better known as a suicide spot.
The first recorded cases of suicide from the cliff were in the 1600s,and unfortunately the number of people choosing to end their lives at the cliffs is increasing.
In August 2004 the Beachy Head chaplaincy team was formed by a local pastor,Ross Hardy and since then they have been patrolling the head reaching out to those in distress and seeking to save lives.
The team have certainly saved lives but still respond to over 750 incidents a year.
During the weekending the 14th of September 2014 they were involved in 12 searches resulting in the rescue of 6 persons who were despondent or suicidal, and thankfully no fatalities .
The chaplaincy is a registered charity and more information on their work can be found at their web site www.bhct.org.uk.
