crust
The morning gold gleamed through the cracks in the cloud crust. Like looking at a pool of molten lava where the hardening layer is still too hot to conceal the energy behind. I was rather hoping that the sky would tint when the sun rose above the even band of cloud but the colour was somehow washed out. I missed my opportunity when the sunrise was low and a red mist swirled and washed across the horizon.
