Creating other worlds
The documentary on the making of Blade Runner the other night was revealing about so many aspects of film making in the eighties. One of the most interesting is the world of visual effects before computers.
Those incredible landscapes and vistas were made in camera, either by multiple exposure or using glass painting to add layers to the camera's point of view.
I started working in London about the same time the film was made and remember the techniques. Layering in camera still interests me.
