Tuesday: Mussels on the Seabed

The internet is very slow in our latest accommodation so it is taking some time to upload this.

We left Korčula this morning after a wonderful few days.  We picked up the car on the mainland and drove along the Pelješac peninsula to get the car ferry to the island of Mljet.  Another fifteen minutes drive at the other end and we are now in the village of Okuklje, the tiniest of places.

It is wonderfully peaceful here with just one street lamp and two restaurants, catering mainly to yachts that come in.

These mussels, on the seabed in this photo, were later on our dinner plate.  The water is amazingly clear.

We played some backgammon over dinner.  K. thinks I should have forfeited the game when I rolled my dice off the edge of the terrace into the Adriatic.  We could see it on the seabed - it was a 3.  At one point, the waiter and I were hanging over the edge with fishing nets, trying to retrieve it, but no luck yet.  We might have better luck in daylight.
