Sunderland
I've now started working in Sunderland, between hospice and community. Its going to be difficult at first as I know Newcastle geography very well but don't know my way around Sunderland yet. I am also new to doing home visits and met some interesting pets today including a tortoise!
Afterwards, I drove to my nanna's as its her birthday today. I drove from Sunderland up the coast and stopped off on the way to explore and to take some photos.
At first, I stopped at the national glass centre and had a look at the view of the river Wear from the roof then had a walk along the river. There still seems to be quite a lot of industry along the Wear with shipyards and large cranes. There were also plenty of little traditional fishing boats.
I drove further up the coast to Roker beach. This photograph is of the old Sunderland lighthouse which was built in 1856 by Thorns Meik. It previously stood on the south pier but the harbour was later re-designed and this lighthouse was moved to Roker cliffs. In the background you can see the red and white Roker pier lighthouse built in 1903.
