The power of a daisy

When I was a kid, we used to have a neighbour who took up the daisies from his lawn using a penknife. (He also used to trim uneven bits the mower missed with a nail scissor, so as you can imagine, his life was not one filled with carefree joy.)

I think he needed those daisies in his life.

They seem such happy flowers, opening up each morning and tilting their heads up to the sun, before closing down again at the end of their day. They have their own rhythm and routine. But just because they do, that doesn't make them simple. Their colouring might be straightforward enough, but if you look more closely, you'll often see a pink tinge to the petals, which are multi-layered and intricate.

Even a lone lawn daisy has real power: it can decide a person's romantic future simply by the number of petals it has; and just think of the power daisies have when a number of them are put together - they can either form a chain, or a crown.

Never underestimate the power of a daisy.
