Cellarium

We took Tomas to two of our favourite places within an hour's drive from home today: Brimham Rocks and Fountains Abbey.

I love this part of the Abbey. It is such an amazing architectural and building achievement, bearing in mind the tools the stonemasons would have had available to them in the 12th Century. The magnificent Cellarium was in fact the storehouse for the Abbey. Thirteen Cistercian monks arrived in the valley in 1132, their abbey was to become one of the richest in Europe.
