Swimming Against The Tide

Manchester Building

On Friday I was on the loose in the Manchester area with a few hours to kill before the Wonderspouse finished work. I'm really not in a shopping mood at the moment, and don't have enough concentration for museums and things.

I toyed with the idea of watching movies on the hotel TV all morning, but in the end spent the day on a trip to the seaside at Southport. One of the disadvantages of living where we do is that the sea is quite a long way away, so I took the opportunity while it was available.

I walked the length of the pier and all along the seafront, which was wonderful - so much nicer than walking at home, which always involves hills and mud (neither of which I'm terribly fond of). I enjoyed the drive to get there too, and was amazed at the flatness of the terrain! Brilliant!

Although I took several pictures there, the one that caught my eye to blip was actually this picture of a building I took on the way back into Manchester. It always amazes me to see such red bricks - brick buildings are in short supply at home.

Maybe we're always fascinated by what we don't have? Nothing is more interesting to a straight-haired person who lives in a land-locked hilly area where all the buildings are made of honey-coloured stone than curly hair, the seaside, flat plains and red bricks!
