Pottery

These are old pots, as displayed at the Western Isles Museum in Stornoway. Crogan (the Gaelic name for them) were in use for all sorts of purposes, including storing food and other household essentials. Nowadays, we go to a high street store to get our cooking pots and pans. In the past, you had to make them yourself or get a craftsman to make them for you. Certainly in this remote corner of the United Kingdom, DIY was the order of the day, well into the 20th century.
