Dragon Lily
While cutting back over-grown plants in an area of the garden that has been neglected over winter, I discovered that my clump of Black Lily had begun to flower. They are also known as Dragon Lily or even Stink Lily because they smell like rotten meat if you squash the stamen.
Often it is difficult to see these remarkable flowers as the stems are quite short unlike the white Arum Lily and they get hidden in the foliage. This also makes them difficult to photograph. I tried holding the leaves back with clothes pegs but that was not very successful.
These flowers are quite dramatic looking reminding me of something you might see in a science fiction movie.
