memorial gardens at Stoke Poges
Had a pleasant stroll around St Giles Church and church yard this afternoon with Libby. Thomas Grey the poet who penned 'Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard' (long long poem), is buried there. He also has a huge ugly monument in his memory just round the corner.
Next door are the beautiful memorial gardens, featuring landscaped and wild sections originally laid out by Capability Brown (real name Lancelot!). Lovely rills in a symmetrical pattern.
As is usual on these sort of visits we found a few graves that made us smile (William Hairs) & a few which were painfully sad ( four twelve year old boys who were washed out to sea in 1985 while on a school trip).
Enjoyed a wonderful roast back at the Thompson ranch - Thanks guys x
