Gawthorpe Hall
Gawthorpe Hall is an Elizabethan country house on the banks of the River Calder in Padiham.
Gawthorpe Textiles Collection is one of the finest collections of lace, embroidery, printed textiles and costume in Europe. Displayed across five galleries at Gawthorpe Hall - an Elizabethan gem in Pennine Lancashire - the collection was amassed by Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth (1886 – 1967).
Miss Rachel turned her ancestral home into a Craft House in order to keep alive the textile skills and techniques she feared were being lost. Gawthorpe Textiles Collection continues to be a place where things are made, skills are shared and people come together to be inspired.
