Doggies in the window
This window is in Broholm Castle in Denmark. We stayed here overnight the next to last day of our trip. It's gorgeous and very very old. We had high tea in one of the sitting rooms, then a 5 course meal along with wine pairing.
You almost always see items in the windows in pairs - pots of orchids are very common, along with circular wreaths of the hoya plant. Many people also have some version of the ceramic/porcelain dogs in the window also. There is a Victorian fairy tale that says that a woman could place the dogs in her front window; if they were turned back to back, it meant her husband was at home. If he was away or at sea, the dogs would be placed facing each other. When her lover passed the house, he would then know by the way the dogs were facing, whether it was safe for him to visit her without her husband knowing. I enjoyed this tale and bought myself a pair of dogs at a shop in Aeroskobing.
Onward tomorrow, back to Copenhagen. So far also the weather has remained fair - no rain since the day we arrived.
