Feast of the Cross

Quiet day today after a really busy time. So we've caught up with many of the things that have been waiting to be done.

Today is a Feast of The Cross. According to legend the True Cross was discovered in 326 by Saint Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great, during a pilgrimage she made to Jerusalem. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was then built at the site of the discovery.

So here's a cross from our home. This tiny cross is made from oak from one of the famous four oaks of Sutton Coldfield, blown down in the hurricane of 1987. An elderly gentleman, virtually blind, collected some of the discarded wood & made these crosses as gifts for visitors to his church. I took anniversary services in his church some years ago and was given this wonderful cross, along with the wonderful story. By this time he was 92 years old. The Feast of the Cross.
