Lest we forget
We went to London today and visited the Tower of London to see the wonderful display of poppies there to commemorate WW1. It is not yet complete but this is something not to be missed and as we approached the Tower the sight was quite breath taking, now surrounding the Tower on three sides. Everyone who sees it is amazed and it is indeed sobering to see.
I don't think our 2 little grandsons really grasped the importance of the 888,246 poppies - one for each British and Colonial death and was pleased that we'd also booked to take them up the Shard, a building that is a celebration of life now and proud to be the tallest in Europe. One of them immediately noticed the view down onto the Tower and all eyes turned onto the river of red surrounding it and the shadow of the Shard pointing to it.
There are many pictures depicting the scene but none of them can even get close to enormity of the conflict, the pain and suffering. May we never forget them.
