Always Something Going On...

…at Spring Lake

We gathered up Dana, Jim, Peter and Rudy this morning to take the dogs to the "Water Bark" event at spring Lake. When the summer season is over, they open the swimming lagoon to the dogs and everyone loves it. When we got there, however, the parking lot was full and the swimming lagoon was empty--closed until noon.

Although I was wearing flip-flops and not my walking shoes, we decided to do our usual walk around the lake. The reason for the late opening soon became evident. Two pleasant young men stationed at a fork in the trail explained that there was a regional high school cross country meet, and the first race had just begun. Young people in tank tops and race numbers were running this way and that, but soon enough, the first runner came through, followed about a minute later by a hoard of fit young women. The front runner is something of a neighborhood phenomenon. We have seen her running with her mother, sister and golden retriever (all the same shade of blonde) since she was elementary school classmates with Peter. According to this morning's newspaper, in junior high school she was posting college level times.

I wasn't fast enough with my camera to catch Rylee, but I chose this shot because, if you look closely, you will see the boys in the trees checking out the action.
