Inner Sense

Seedy Saturday

It's hard to guess what this is. I had problems when it was growing. I now think it is a cardoon, a close relative of the globe artichoke. It is very decorative when in flower and apparently you can eat the stems. I opened it up and took out the seeds to save and plant somewhere. The original plants are still in the ground as they're perennials but their location is right next to a large rock and frankly I don't know how they grew at all.

The hairy choke inside the flower end up as these lovely parachutes. Mrs G saw them on the table and thought they looked Christmasy.

Today was a day off from gardening, or at least from the heavy lifting. I got in to town for the photography show by Wetcoastbob, which was excellent. Then a haircut and some errands. We were intending to go to the Fall Fair and see the sheepdogs but ended up taking it easy since they're on again tomorrow.

Mrs G has offered to take me out to dinner... so all in all a very pleasant and relaxing day. I hope your weekend is enjoyable too!
