Shaggers Are In Town

The scene is outside Duck's, one of several popular dance clubs in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Fat Harold's Beach Club is across the street, but they don't have outside seating. These folks have filled the sidewalk as they listen to music outside the club before going in to dance. The dance is Shagging. It's the official dance for the state of South Carolina and is done to music known as "beach music." Twice a year, thousands of shaggers come to the beach for activities including lots of shagging. Shagging is a distinctive dance where partners hold hands, but rarely have close body contact. The upper body remains rather still while the dance focuses on feet and leg movements. It is so cool.
