Heartside Strong

Some of you may remember that I work at a drop-in/program center for the homeless in Grand Rapids. We've been in the neighborhood for 30 years providing community, day time shelter, education, art studio, pottery, sewing room, counseling and more. And we've been tenants the entire time.

A sleazy strip club on our block went out of business (yay!) and the first deal on the sale of the building fell through. And we have now purchased the building. We didn't release the news to the press and were preparing how to roll out the news when a car crashed through the front of the building, shattering the glass windows. News media was all over it and our announcement was out: "Oh yeah, hey. We bought a building."

Needless to say, the space needs major reconstruction and we will be doing major fundraising. It will be a year or two before we move in and two artists decorated the boarded up windows :-) Cheers!
