Childhood Aspirations

I have fond memories of visits to Danson Park as a child with my Sister and Mum, when it was always Summer! The attractions included an open air swimming pool (now a housing estate :(( ), pitch and putt, tennis courts, aviaries (which just disappeared), wide open spaces and the Lake. Today this is used by Anglers and a Water Sports centre, but then the children's boating pool was a hit - though I think I got a reputation for "falling in"!

We considered the houses along Danson Road overlooking the park as the "posh" part of Welling, and were places to aspire to. The ones in the photo are classic Art Deco 1930s style detached houses, but personally I always wanted a large bungalow type house further along built over a triple garage/basement with huge "picture" windows - probably built around 1960. Today I'd rather have a house with more character, like a Victorian or Edwardian style, but my 1970s build house still suits!
