a surprise on the stair

got back yesterday teatime from my trip north to find a lovely bunch of coral roses outside my door...not at all expected, so all the more lovely a surprise....they have replaced last week's daffodils on the kitchen mantelpiece and contrast better with the colours of my favourite poster...

spent today at the plot, preparing the carrot seed bed, harvesting the last of the Brussels sprouts (wonderful vegetable if home grown, quite unlike the shop bought variety), digging in manure and spreading lime. The birds on Blackford Hill were in full song, felt a little bit like spring in between the cold showers.
