Guildford Cathedral is a familiar landmark that can be seen for miles around. The building was started in 1936 and was halted during WWII. Work commenced again in 1954 and it was finished a few years later. I don't find the red brick exterior at all attractive and it is disappointing when you consider what a marvelous site and what could have been built. No doubt some people would disagree with me. However, in a simple way the interior is pleasing and very light with few stained glass windows. The Somerset limestone pillars have mellowed over the years against a very light Italian marble floor.
I visited the Cathedral to see an art exhibition by people with special needs, so took advantage of taking the blip of the day. I particularly like the formation of the arches.
