Thank you First Responders
We live our lives each day, expecting fun and laughter and excitement, worrying about possible sadness and missed opportunities.
First Responders include firefighters, police officers, paramedics, sheriffs, highway patrol, doctors and nurses on call and lets not forget the people behind the scenes, taking the emergency calls, passing them to the right resources.
If you ever need a first responder, you will be amazed at how brave they are, how calm they are, how skilled they are and how human they are. They are among us and yet stand out in front of us to protect us from loss of life or possessions.
Thank you to the first responders - today as an important day in US History. May our children never know the sheer volume of tragedy seen that day 13 years ago. Thank you for every other day too - for July 7th in London (where I had the privilege to work alongside some of the first responders when they brought their patients to the hospital I was working in), for the Boston Bombings, the Moscow hostage situation, the Mumbai attacks and far too many more days of high volume tragedy.
Thank you also for all the other days - the traffic accidents, the sudden collapse, the drive-bys, the faulty heaters and all.
We were glad today to be able to say thank you to our neighborhood firefighters with this poster and some food.
Tomorrow, we will go back to the excitement from my daughter - look a fire truck! And the annoyance of pulling over to get out of their way when everyone else ignores it and carries on.
If you see an emergency vehicle - get out of the way! They might be rushing to save your child, your loved one, your parent, your relative or friend - or yourself one day.
