Paris, je t'aime!
I love Paris. It is truly where my heart resides. I've only been there twice, but it captivates my imagination.
My girlfriend and I were in the local video store the other night and I looked over at a display standing nearby and I saw this print. It stopped me in my tracks. Not because it's a picture of the Eiffel Tower, but because it is a picture of the Tower from the nineteenth century.
The Tower was built for the World Exposition of 1889 and was only supposed to stand for twenty years. It was scheduled to be destroyed, but (fortunately) it was discovered that it was an excellent radio antenna...radio being a still infantile technology at the time. The palace in the background no longer exists, as it too was built for the Exposition.
So, my girlfriend, being the beautiful, sweet, generous person she is, purchased this print for me as my Valentine's Day present, making it the best ever!!
