Marbled

Too tired to Blip last night as we staggered in around having had an action-packed day with our pals Robert and Finola on the trail of Mass rocks, as you do. Mass rocks, if you're not sure what they are, are large rocks usually in remote places that were used as open air altars in penal times ie when catholics were forbidden to hold Mass or go to church. Secret meetings were organised at great risk to the priest.

Anyway there are many scattered around the countryside and we headed off to one on the peninsula to begin with. The day was spectacular, warm and sunny as we trudged through the heather. Armed with maps and print-outs we then went off to the Mizen for more exploration. We ended up in all sorts of fields, moorland, back gardens, tiny pathways, and found another two out of three. Perhaps even more interesting were the encounters. Having trudged over fields we knocked at a nearby house and were invited in by two Germans who had just arrived for a holiday. They assured us the mass rock was no longer findable but showed us around their rather beautiful farmhouse and garden! Looking for the final rock we were also invited in and go chatted with the occupants, one of whom was a potter and had travelled aorund Cork and Kerry in a horse drawn carriage looking for holy wells. We swopped emails!

The day was completed with large pizzas in Skibbereen.

The blip is of some interesting reflections found down at a tiny quay. The tide was incredibly high and the boats colourful. Himself has blipped a different view of the same spot.
