Wide Angle Fun!
Today, I received two rented lenses. Both are wide angle lenses suitable for photographing architectural features at our house. I wanted to take a number of photos of the house to feature on the brochure and internet showing. And, let's be honest, I just wanted to play with these lenses to determine if I want to buy either of them.
I rented the 12-24mm f4 DX lens and the 16-35mm f4 FX lens. I was immediately struck by the size difference. The 16-35mm lens is a monster compared to the 12-24mm lens. Both seem to be well made and are made in Japan. I spent most of the morning shooting tons of "evaluation" shots to determine best aperture for distance, minimizing distortion, etc. I then tried them out photographing the lower level of the house. I have realized one thing - the interface between my 18-200mm lens and the camera is not working correctly. I was amazed at the ease of auto-focus with the other two lenses, whereas it is always a "fight" with my 18-200mm.
Since it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon and evening (no rain - hooray!), I decided to give the 12-24mm DX lens a bit of a work out. I took a long walk through the city park just before sunset and took lots of shots. I was thoroughly enjoying myself playing with a wide angle lens.
When I uploaded all of the photos, I was pleasantly reassured that both lenses produce very sharp images.
I have the lenses for 10 days, so I will be putting them through a work out. I will let you know how things progress.
Have a great day tomorrow!
