Eavesdropping on the Book Club

Had a fine morning row with my buddy J. Then a lovely warm and sunny afternoon with my book club buddies in M’s backyard. Could not resist Angus, the neighbor’s dog, here - of course M feeds him (he’s still licking his lips). I had to show the whole fence —he’s up on some bench to see over…which he did a lot!

The book: Mink River by Brian Doyle, about a mythical small town on the soggy Oregon Coast.(there is no mink river in Oregon). Full of many colorful and mostly morally good characters, Irish and Native American stories , a talking crow and other magical realism, I did find myself in this place and community. My main criticism was the writer’s device of writing many things as a long list which got tedious after the second time.
