To The Rescue
So I've had a very bizarre day.
Remember my bike puncture of the other day? Well Ian fixed it for me, but it turns out that my back brake popped off when I was cycling on Monday. So tonight I was all set to go and visit a friend at his work and he was going to fix it for me. I'm so clueless I don't know how to do it.
I was getting ready to set off and I saw a cyclist emerging from a house in my street. I don't know what possessed me, but in the park I asked him if he could help. Turns out he could, he went home and got an allan key and fixed my bike. His name is John; my hero. We got talking and then I do then believe he asked me out - I was a little surprised, but we exchanged numbers and apparently are going to go cycling together.
As we said goodbye, I heard Wesley crying. Now being the crazy cat lady I am, I set out to find him. He'd only got himself stuck in a tree. He was about 20ft up. What do you do when a cat gets stuck in a tree? It's like a bad joke, or a cliche! So I turned to Facebook to help.
Fiona and Paul came to my rescue this time with a ladder. We were out for over an hour, but we couldn't get him and he even retreated further up a tree - to about 30ft. I phoned the non emergency police line, they told me to phone the fire brigade. The fire brigade was closed and there was no way I was calling 999. So Paul suggested the SSPCA.
They apparently only come out if the cat is stuck for more than 24 hours. Their advice was to put out a bowl of tuna and to leave him. Apparently he will be happy if I'm there but if I go, he'll actually try and get down on his own. If he's not out by tomorrow morning, I have to phone them back and they'll come out and help.
So I'm now sat at home worrying about the wee man (pictured). I'm sure he'll be fine, but I hate to hear him cry and see him so distressed. I'll go and check on him in a wee while.
UPDATE - Good news! Paul managed to get hold of his other friend Paul, who had a 30ft ladder. He went up the ladder, climbed the tree and then dropped Wes out of the tree. Another Hero to add to the list! Wes looks to be ok, but I'm going to watch him tonight so make sure he hasn't sustained any injuries in the fall. I've locked him in and he's eating tuna!
