Day 1 of traveling/flying

Today started our loooong journey home.

Because the airline decided to change our tickets and we bought a separate ticket from Cairns to Sydney before that we also had a long waiting time in Sydney - otherwise we would have made it better matching.

So today at 8 o 'clock we left from our hostel to the airport in Cairns. We arrived there too early as the check-in desk was not even open. I don't know how we did it, but I had made a mistake in the booking and accidentally clicked '25 kilo' for my luggage. Well, good thing I did! I came with 16 kilos to Australia but left with 24,1! (We didn't buy that much, honestly!) And my boyfriend had 19,8 of the allowed 20.

Then we flew to Sydney, our only flight that was on time! In Sydney we spend about 6 hours. We ate, played games, watched television, did people-watching, etc. While we were there there were about 15 flights from Sydney to Melbourne with our airline alone, but somehow we get the one that is the last one before our flight to Dubai/London.

Well, we're not the only one because about 30 others in our plane have to catch the flight to Dubai/London, so the plane is waiting for us ;). Eventually we get in Melbourne where there are people on every corner pointing us in the right direction of our airplane. Sooo.. then we are finally in the airplane, but we don't leave.

So after a while they say there is a problem; something with a fuel leak or something, not entirely sure anymore. So there are some mechanics/technicians looking at it. A while later they state that if they have to fix it it will take 10 hours! Luckily there was another airbus a380 from Qantas next to us. So they said they would take a couple of hours to clean the airplane, move the catering, etc. In the meantime, as it was already past 11, the airport was closed (in the terminal we were staying) so we had to stay in the airplane...

Around 4 hours later than originally schedules we left from Melbourne to Dubai - another 14 hours in the plane at the same place. In Dubai people were redirected to their new flights as they had missed them. Luckily we had to get back into the same plane, so we didn't miss our flight to London
