Glory is fleeting

Busy day in Athens

Today we got up bright and early to catch the wooden seated bus to Aegena port and from there negotiated the ferry over to Piraeus.
Found the Metro station and headed up to Monastiraki where the flea market was in full swing. I did some haggling and bought 2 bracelets for 5 euros. We hadn't had breakfast so were delighted to stumble across Cafe Avissinia (which was highly recommended on TripAdvisor) - had a great coffee and a lovely homemade pavlova. The photo above is looking through the window of the cafe onto the busy market square.
Once finished in the market we headed on to the Agora. A remarkable archaeological site that we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring. Luckily it clouded over a bit so it was pretty good for walking around.
We got the metro back to Piraeus and managed to find a nice cafe there for juice and some snacks. (We were called into it by a Richard Wiseman looky-likey).
In the cafe we were treated to a bit of greek dancing and a bar brawl. (Really just the dancing drunk clattering into Brenda). Richard was incredibly apologetic though it wasn't his fault.
We caught our favourite Alexandros ferry back to the island and saw a submarine en route!
Back home it started to cloud over even more and finally the thunder and lightning that's been forecast all week arrived. So instead of going out we bought a bottle of wine and got some takeaway from Pita Tom's and sat on the balcony and enjoyed the show. Great lightning over the Aegean.
A full day that I wanted to record here before bedtime!
