Rugby--France beats Ireland!
In European rugby, the Six-Nations tournament is played every year during February-March. The teams of France, Italy, Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland play each other in round-robin format on successive weekends; the winner is determined by points (victory = 2, draw =1, loss = 0). Ireland was undefeated last year and as such was crowned the grand slam champion. Today we watched (on French television in Paris) as France (in blue) humiliated Ireland (in green) by 33-10--a very satisfying victory.
In my view, rugby has it all over American football--there is constant passing, and kicking--you can even score three points with a drop kick any time during play (that's not common--the two scored today were the first pair I'd ever seen in a single match). The line score is at the bottom--"essais" are tries (equivalent to touchdowns--5 points), "transformations'' are extra points--2 per try, and penalty kicks score 3 points. The photo shows a scrum, which occurs sometimes when play is stopped entirely--otherwise it is marvellously fluid and continuous (as least at its best).
