Dancing to a Different Drum?

These dancers from the Lummi Tribe were performing at the Bellewood Acres Oyster Fest, one of the inaugural events in the fifth annual Whatcom Water Weeks, September 6-20.

The Water Weeks are organized by Whatcom Watershed Information Network (WWIN), whose mission is to "support and improve watershed education, stewardship, information exchange and public involvement efforts in Whatcom County".

The WWIN handout leaflet had some very interesting trivia about water consumption. I bet you didn't know that a dairy cow drinks 25-50 gallons* /95-190 liters a day, or that it takes 1,500 gal*/570 l to produce a barrel of beer (32 gal/120 l), including water required to produce the grain and other ingredients. It's going to take me a while to stop feeling guilty the next time I have a beer -- speaking of which -- it's about that time!

*US gallons, of course.
