Settling in

Very quiet day...first time in the flat on my own for ages! Some pootling around doing washing etc etc then some work catch up (not as much as I should have done), then a walk over to Bruntsfield and a trip to the big supermarket (first time since May!) and recycling.
Today is 'moving in day' for all the freshers....the pavements and paths nearby were full of parents and teenagers exploring the area and desperately trying to manage the massive transition between childhood and independence, between one home and another new one. Lots of last minute advice being given and ignored. On the way back from the supermarket there were lots of cars pulling out of the residences with pairs of or single parents driving away....
It brought back a huge wave of memories and contradictory feelings about being with people and alone
Lots to think about. Glad the sun finally came out to cheer up the day and light the way home for those probably tearful parents
