The Arnold Stones

So named after the archaeologist who discovered them in 1856, in use as coping stones in the perimeter wall, while investigating the cemetery to determine the position of Old Pentland Church. The stones are thought to date from the C13 as the carvings suggest a connection with the Knights Templar, who were based at nearby Temple at that time. They are currently stored in the watchhouse.

More recent archeological digs (see section 2.2) have concluded that the church edifice has been robbed out and the mystery of its position continues.
