New things; new perceptions @GSofA

I picked up this little handmade notebook yesterday when I was at the McLellan Galleries in Glasgow being given a preview of the Graduate Degree Show, which is a showcase for the work of postgraduate students at Glasgow School of Art.
I was up late last night writing my review of the show for Saturday's Herald.
Many of the fine art MLitt students had studios in the Mack Building, which was ravaged by the fire on May 23rd.
Luckily their studios were at the opposite end of the building from the library - the bit which suffered most damage - so their work wasn't harmed.
Several students have since made work which relates to the fire.
This was part of a video work by sculpture student, Cristina Garriga.
It's called My Bookcase. As part of the project, Cristina has collaborated with staff at the Mackintosh Library to locate some of the books lost in the fire.
She's interviewed several artists with connections to the art school, including David Harding, who headed up the famous Environmental Art course which produced a raft of Turner Prize winners and nominees,
David is a fellow George Wyllie Foundation Trustee. A lovely man and and a wise owl.
As he says in the filmed interview, what happened with the fire and its aftermath is almost biblical.
Amen to that.
