GRASS IN THE WIND

I pass this grass every day - it lives in a metre cube of a tub & has kind of become a friend.

Tried to identify it consulting the oh so dry Pelican book of Grasses by C.E. Hubbard - published in 1954 - nothing jumps out - probably not British enough for Mr. Hubbard?
