Unsung Talent

Hugh Green earned his living as a house painter while pursuing his art, painting in watercolours the local landscape and architecture around Stirlingshire.

He never sort fame during his lifetime (1892-1973) and his story is that of the unwritten art history of Stirlingshire.

Today, thanks to the work of James Wedlake, a young intern at the Smith museum and Art gallery, he is finally getting due recognition with an exhibition and catalogue.

I happened to stumble upon this exhibition while in the gallery this afternoon meeting a former colleague and friend, Lesley Duncan, Poetry Editor of the Herald, and she agreed to pose for a photo with some of Green’s work.
