The Upside

The sun was out when I got home from work and the builders were finally taking down the scaffolding from the back of the house which means after more than eight weeks we finally have a working TV! Much rejoicing from the children, but I've really enjoyed not having it. Jamie was a bit peeved to miss every single World Cup match .. that feels a long time ago now.

The upside of not watching TV this summer is that the children discovered the scaffolding at the front of the house made a brilliant makeshift gym: chin-ups, monkey bars, circle-ups and all. They have massive blisters on their hands, but great upper body strength! The builders have seen how much fun the kids have had and have offered to build them an asymmetric bars set-up in the garden with some spare scaffold poles. I'm quite tempted.

And I wonder if the children would have had so much fun if we had had tv? And I wonder, to myself, if we can pretend it's suddenly stopped working again ..
