Thoughtful Thursday: Mom

Susie Q, or Sweet Sue. These were nicknames for my mother when she was a girl. I've seen old photos of her that were virtually indistinguishable from Shirley Temple, with a head full of ringlet curls and a sunny smile. I was blessed with a mother whose heart was overflowing with love for her family and friends, and always sought to extend that circle ever wider. She was the champion of the underdog, the one who always nudged us to include the kids that everyone ignored. She always gave encouragement without allowing excuses, and expected the best out of everyone--because that's what she did, too. Mom had the extraordinary ability of choosing just the right gift, after careful thought and consideration. The number of gifts was much less important than their meaning. I don't know how my mom was able to manage six children, a household, "part-time" employment, and volunteer work. I can only say that she did, and I am grateful.
