Purple strands

Many of these thistles are losing their strands and being gobbled up by shiny green beetles at this time of year. The bees meanwhile are hard at work collecting pollen whilst they can and there was still plenty to be had on this one. As we walked above the valley today we noted a turn towards the end of summer. The hay is still being gathered but the larches are showing twinges of yellow.
