Memory Blanket

A quick blip today, busy getting organised as will be heading to Pukekohe tomorrow morning - we are "grandie-sitting" for two weeks while our son and wife are overseas. The children are 6 and 8 and both at school, so will need to get ourselves organised around school timetables, after school activities etc.

Thought I would share an image of this rather eclectic, random blanket which I knitted while we were travelling in the US. We bought an RV and had five trips in her of 3 - 4 months at a time, great fun.
In 2011 we drove from Montana through to Prudhoe Bay in Alaska and returned to Washington state. I knew there would be a lot of driving involved so decided I needed to keep occupied while we were on the road. Came up with the idea of knitting squares using wool that I bought at different towns we stopped in, or from friends that we visited. It was a lot of fun and finally finished it last year before we sold the RV. I didn't restrict myself to colours, just wools that I liked and often out of the bargain bins. There is even some patchwork fabric that I bought in Haines, Alaska, and ripped it into thin strips that I could knit as highlights in a square.

I kept a blog during our travels so that friends and family could keep tabs on us.

So hopefully in my dottage, I can pull this blanket up and remember those wonderful days we had.
