St Fillan's Cave

A dark cave off a small side street may not seem like the most obvious visitor attraction, but St Fillan's Cave in Pittenweem is well worth a visit. The rock above the cave entrance is quite amazing showing the most amazing shapes caused by erosion.

St Fillan was a 7th century Christian missionary from Ireland. He most likely led a peripatetic life, staying wherever there was shelter. He most likely used the cave, as it was an ideal cover for an occasional visit in his ministry.
The cave has had an interesting history including being used by smugglers!
